Eighteenth Century Nashville

Eighteenth Century Nashville was a great time of expansion. The city, first named "French Lick," then "Nashboro," was finally named "Nashville," after it started to become gentrified.

Still, it was a time of stuggle. There was a great influx of Scotch Irish who relocated to the area during and following the American Revolutionary War, forcing conflict with the Indian populations who had lived and hunted in the area for centuries.

In time, the remaining Indian populations were forced to relocate. In their place farms sprang up and when they had proven successful, the wealthy who built large plantations and brought in mass agriculture production with slavery as a basis for labor. Some of the owners became very influential in American military and politics, with more than one eventually moving on to the highest political office in the country.

The links embedded in this section cover some of these homes and the people who lived in them.
