Is the Nashville Area Good for Big Business?
Nashville to Get Tallest Building in Southeast
Nashville's country music singers are known to tell a tall tale or two, and it might surprise some people who remember the television show, Hee Haw, and still think of Nashville that way, but the city is about to get the tallest skyscraper in the Southeast.
Reported to be on the order of 1,052 feet tall, the building is being called the Signature Tower and will be located in the center of downtown on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Church Street. USA Today reports that it will be the tallest building in the USA after New York and Chicago.
It will host a residential hotel and condominiums. The developer is Tony Giarratana, known to some as Nashville's condo king. Final approval was made on January 16, 2007 by a resolution of Nashville's Metro Council.
A website has already been set up for the Signature Tower where one can view an interactive floorplan of residential suites, check out amenities and take a virtual tour. Mrs. Nash liked the spa, pool deck, sun beds and "calming water wall." The site also offers a small bonus, you can listen to music performed by the Nashville Symphony while visiting (Mrs. Nash doesn't know why they didn't want to use her banjo tunes).
Look Who is Moving Here
In 2006, Nashvillians were excited to learn that Nissan, one of the largest auto and light truck manufacturers in the world had chosen Middle Tennessee relocate its national headquarters. The company had formerly been located in conjested Los Angeles, CA, housing its large organization in multiple buildings. A new state-of-the-art multi-million dollar facility now being built adjacent to Interstate 65 (a major corridor that runs from southern Alabama to Chicago) will house the majority of the 1,500 or so staff and exectives. Nashville welcomes Nissan!
Auto manufacturing is nothing new to Nashville. The area has been home to both a Saturn manufacturing plant and an existing Nissan plant for over ten years.
