Mrs. Nash's Top 10 Must-See List

The Parthenon in Centennial Park

The Parthenon in Centennial Park - Nashville, Tennessee.

Built for the 1897 Centennial Exposition, this city park has the obligatory duck pond, but it also includes (to the best of Mrs. Nash's knowledge - which doesn't always go far) the only full-size, complete standing replica in the world of Greece's ancient Parthenon.

Tours of the Parthenon are available every day but Mondays (between 9am and 4:30pm) and worth the small fee ($4.00 adult, $2.50 child and seniors). Parking availability in the park varies with events, but generally is easy to find and almost always free.

A statue of the Greek goddess, Athena graces the inside of the Parthenon. She is gilded in gold leaf and stands 42 feet tall. Mrs. Nash says, "she's quite the spectacle."

Despite all that show-offy gold, Mrs. Nash approves of Athena, unlike another statue in town (on Music Row) which is Mr. Nash's favorite. Mrs. Nash argues, "at least Athena has the good sense to keep her clothes on."
