Percy Priest Lake

Hamilton Creek Marina on Percy Priest Lake - Nashville, Tennessee.

As you fly in to Nashville, one of the first things you may notice, as you prepare to land, is the vast amount of recreational water near the city.

Nashville has two large man-made lakes built by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers during the middle of the twentieth century. They are Percy Priest Lake and Old Hickory Lake. Both lakes have miles of shoreline, abundant fishing and access to boating.

Old Hickory Lake (OHL) has maintained much of its original river character, and even has a slight current in some places. Unlike its city cousin, OHL has residential housing on its banks. Reba McEntire, Johnny Cash, and Barbara Mandrell have had homes at one time or another along its lengthy shoreline.

Percy Priest Lake has more of a lake feel with its innumerable inlets and quiet coves ready for exploring (Mrs. Nash asks you please refrain from doing the wild thing – sunbathing – as it's not good for the wrinkles. You were thinking of something else perhaps?).

A BMX bicycle track, single-track wooded bicycle trails, four marinas, public beaches, campground, fishing piers and numerous picnic areas make this lake area a great, convenient get away from the city. Permits are required for all fishing activity. Some commercial recreational businesses are also available including boat rentals and a water park.
