Mrs. Nash's Top 10 Must-See List

Natchez Trace Parkway

An overlook of a Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge - Williamson County, Tennessee.

The Natchez Trace Parkway is a highlight of the Nashville area that gets less press than it deserves. It is a true gem in the city's portfolio of sites.

With its northern terminus located in the southwestern corner of Nashville, this national parkway rivals the more famous Blue Ridge Parkway in its beauty. From Nashville, the NTP goes all the way to Louisiana.

The stretch near Nashville takes you over an enormous large-span concrete bridge, and then across the ridge tops of the hills of Tennessee, back in time along the same route buffalo, Native Americans, explorers and settlers used to travel inland from the most southern reaches of the continent.

The parkway is strictly for those seeking a peaceful drive, hike or bicycle ride, scenic views and abundant wildlife. The speed limit is only about 35 mph keeping the urban, hurried traveler seeking alternate routes (Mrs. Nash warns visitors to be wary of the occasional nut job driving a hot rod).

Bed and Breakfasts and good eats can be found near many of the exits.

For those with a keen eye the old trail is still visible in some places, parallel to the road itself.
