Dining in Nashville

Restaurants Popular with Business Types

Jimmy Kellys - Jimmy Kellys offers a place to dine in an intimate grand southern setting. Located directly adjacent to the western side of the Baptist Hospital (west of downtown) and a couple blocks north of Vanderbilt University's campus. With a well stocked menu of beef and fish, don't overlook the corn cakes that have made the place a Nashville tradition for years. An especially unique and welcome feature of this restaurant is the professional wait staff. Unlike most eateries which turn their folks weekly or monthly, at least several of the people here who cater to the diners have worked here well over twenty years. They serve their clientel with special care and the tradition shows.

Merchants - Located downtown on lower Broadway across from and next to honky tonks and trinket shops, Merchants is a pleasant surprise with its upscale menu, quiet atmosphere and exceptional service. Get the deal done here and you can celebrate in style. Of course if you lose the deal, you can always pay your bill and go down to one of the neighboring honky tonks and drown your sorrows.

Flemmings - After explaining to your client how their business idea is as great as the world famous Parthanon, what better way the cap off the evening than to take him or her to the restaurant across the street from the only full-scale replica of it in the world? Flemings will continue to make your client feel special with their well thought out wine list and select cuts of beef.

The Stock Yard - Located on the grounds of an old livestock trading building, just north of downtown Nashville off First Avenue North, this is a favorite for ambiance as well as food. The building has a destination feel to it which makes the crowd excited and the meal almost entertaining. If you can pull your belly out from under the table after you are finished, go downstairs to the country bar and listen to some authentic country crooners. But watch your head, the ceiling is low down there and the crowd is known to keep Mrs. Nash out later than the counselors like.

Mortons - Found downtown on Church Street, Mortons is a fine, nationally known steak house. Mrs. Nash hasn't been there yet, but she swears when she's ready to try her first cigar, that's the place she'll go if they still allow that sort of thing.

Nick and Rudy's - Mrs. Nash hasn't been in this steak house yet but she's noticed the men and women she's seen going in the doors and they're not exactly wearing flip flops and cut off jeans. It's across from Vanderbilt University's law and business schools and judging from the attire of the customers she figures "there ain't no kegger going on in there."

Wild Boar - Mrs. Nash noted that it had a French flair. She liked the parade of wait staff that served her and especially enjoyed the atmosphere. She took in her evening listening in to a certain U.S. Senator and a political consultant, at the next table of course, discussing the value of a dirty vs. a clean campaign. He probably would have preferred one of the attractive, large private booths had he known Mrs. Nash was a swing voter that year.

Mrs. Nash might choose to use your comments if she thinks highly of your culinary critique and you give her the ok to use your words, free of charge of course (You didn't really think she was going to pay you - did you?)
